Kathmandu, Nov 13 : The commission formed to investigate the Jenzi Movement incidents of September 8 and 9 has decided to restrict outgoing Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Chandra Kubar Khapung from leaving the Kathmandu Valley.
The decision comes as IGP Khapung retired from service on Thursday. According to the commission, the restriction has been imposed to facilitate investigations into the events that took place during the protests.
In a press statement, commission spokesperson Bijyan Raj Sharma said Khapung has been “restricted to his location for the purpose of inquiry and investigation.” The statement further noted, “Since he may be required to appear before the commission at any time, arrangements have been made to prevent his foreign travel and ensure he does not leave the Kathmandu Valley without the commission’s approval.”
Earlier, the commission had also decided to impose similar travel restrictions on five individuals, including former Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
