UML Leader Pasang Sherpa Sent to Dillibazar Prison in Polygamy Case

Kathmandu, Nov 5:  CPN-UML Central Committee member Pasang Sherpa has been sent to Dillibazar Prison to serve his sentence in a polygamy case.

Sherpa was arrested on Tuesday evening and presented before the court on Wednesday for the execution of the verdict. Following the court’s order, he was transferred to Dillibazar Prison, confirmed Kathmandu District Police spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai.

Sherpa, who also heads the UML’s Janajati Federation, had been convicted by the Patan High Court last year in a polygamy case filed by his wife, Karishma Kharel, at the Kathmandu District Court.

The District Court had sentenced him to one year in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. Sherpa had appealed the decision, but the High Court upheld the lower court’s ruling. Despite the verdict, he had reportedly been evading arrest under political protection until his detention this week.
