NC former Vice-President Shrestha urges unity in crisis

Lalitpur, Oct 19: Former Vice-President of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gopalman Shrestha, has stressed the need to rise above partisan interest and factional politics in the crisis facing the country.

Organizing a press conference in Lalitpur on Sunday, leader Shrestha asked the the NC leadership to take the lead in building unity and addressing the issues for the greater good of the country. The political parties are the bearers of democracy, he said, arguing that there was no alternative to political parties in the democratic system.

He also saw the urgency of bringing new political parties in dialogue.”Politics cannot progress by negating seniors, hence we should move ahead by in coordination with all sides,” he noted.

During the press meet, he also reaffirmed his support to the new leadership in the party to establish in the party’s leadership. He was of the view that the political parties should be held responsible for the past’s discontent and pay attention to nation-building and advancing nationalism.

In his view, the current problems could be resolved within the political parties by ditching the politics of negation. Shrestha called on all political parties to say no to the politics of negation and urged them to move forward through cooperation, co-existence and dialogue.
