Sunmaya Budha emerges first runner up in Trail Running World Championship

Kathmandu, Sept 28: Nepal’s Sunmaya Budha has emerged first runner-up in the women’s field in the Trail Running World Championship held in Spain. This is regarded as a historical achievement for Nepal.

The Nepali runner completed the trail running of 81 kilometres in 10 hours 23 minutes and 3 seconds to secure the second position.

Sunmaya was just 26 minutes behind the American ultrarunner Katie Schide, who achieved the gold medal in the Long Trail race at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.

Organized by the World Mountain Running Association, the World Athletics and the International Association of Ultra Runners had also forged a collaboration in the championships.

The participants included more than 1,700 athletes from 80 countries across the world.
Sunmaya Budha, Suman Kulung, Sange Sherpa and Man Kumar Roka participated on behalf of Nepal which was facilitated by Nepal Adventure Running Federation. Suman and Man Kumar also completed the race by securing 32nd and 36th positions, respectively.
