Singapore’s manufacturing output falls 7.8 pct year-on-year in August

Singapore’s manufacturing output fell 7.8 percent year-on-year in August, the Economic Development Board said Friday.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, output dropped 9.7 percent.

All clusters except transport engineering and chemicals recorded year-on-year declines. Biomedical manufacturing led the fall, down 37.3 percent. Within the cluster, medical technology rose 5.3 percent on sustained export demand, while pharmaceuticals fell 59.3 percent due to changes in the mix of ingredients produced.

Transport engineering output increased 18.9 percent, and chemicals rose 3.5 percent.
