Kathmandu, Sept 14: Senior advocate Sabita Bhandari has been appointed Attorney General, the official legal advisor to the government. She is the first Attorney General in Nepal’s history.
President Ramchandra Paudel made the appointment upon the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Spokesperson at the Office of the President, Pradip Koirala, informed in a press note, “Sabita Bhandari is appointed as the Attorney General in accordance with Article 157 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal on Sunday.”
Bhandari is the daughter of senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari. She had also served as an Information Commissioner.
Earlier, the President had approved the resignation tendered by Attorney General Ramesh Badal who was appointed by the previous government.
