Preparation to Appoint Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as Prime Minister

Kathmandu, Sept 12:  Preparations are underway to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the new Prime Minister. President Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to formally appoint her and administer the oath of office later today.

The move comes amid mounting pressure from the Gen Z movement. On Thursday night, President Paudel held marathon consultations at Sheetal Niwas with the Chief of Army Staff, leaders of various political parties, and constitutional experts.

Advisers reportedly urged the president to act within the constitutional framework while seeking a way out of the current crisis. Citing his role as the guardian of the constitution, President Paudel is preparing to use his authority to appoint Karki, who is not a member of parliament, as prime minister.

Sources say consensus was reached on Karki’s name in line with the demands raised by the Gen Z protesters.
