Agency, August 14: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have made history by winning their first-ever UEFA Super Cup. In a thrilling final on Wednesday night, the French giants defeated English side Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time.
The game, held at the Bluenergy Stadium, saw Tottenham take control early on. Micky van de Ven opened the scoring in the 39th minute, and Cristian Romero doubled the lead just three minutes into the second half (48’). However, PSG mounted a stunning late comeback — Kang-in Lee pulled one back in the 85th minute before Gonçalo Ramos headed home in the fourth minute of stoppage time from an Ousmane Dembélé cross to level the score.
In the shootout, PSG converted four penalties through Ramos, Dembélé, Kang-in Lee, and Nuno Mendes, while Vitinha missed. For Spurs, Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro scored, but Van de Ven and Mathys Tel failed to convert, handing PSG the historic victory.
With this win, PSG not only lifted the Super Cup for the first time in their history but also showcased their resilience, turning around what looked like certain defeat into a night of celebration for the French champions.
