Rajbiraj (Saptari), Aug 6: Locals have launched a protest Wednesday, demanding fair investigation into the alleged killing of Lalu Yadav in police firing on Tuesday.
Yadav’s relatives and locals had burnt tires before the District Police Office in agitation.
The main market place remained closed throughout the day today after the protest in the major thoroughfares at Dasan in Rajbiraj.
Deputy Superintendent of the Police, Jitendra Kumar Basnet, claimed that Yadav died when police resorted to open fire after locals suddenly started pelting stones at police personnel.
Acting on a tip-off that liquors was being smuggled to India, the police squad had reached there to abort the unlawful act, he further shared.
Yadav, 35, who was injured in a gunshot, breathed his last in course of the treatment at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj. He was the chairperson of the Basic School Management Committee in his locality.
Yadav’s kin and locals blamed that police had deliberately opened fire at Yadav.
