PM Oli returns home from Spain

Kathmandu, July 4: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli returned home on Thursday after attending the United Nations’ Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain from June 30 to July 3.

PM Oli had departed for Spain on June 28 at the cordial invitation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, PM Oli was welcomed at the VIP lounge by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey, and Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal. A contingent of the Nepali Army presented a guard of honor to the prime minister. Senior government officials and security chiefs were also present at the airport to receive him.

During his stay in Spain, PM Oli held bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including a courtesy call on Spanish King Felipe VI and a meeting with his counterpart Pedro Sánchez. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he also interacted with global and regional leaders, representatives of financial and trade institutions, business leaders, civil society members, and UN officials.

Nepal’s delegation highlighted the development challenges faced by least developed, small, and island nations. The conference focused on addressing immediate and long-term investment needs for achieving sustainable development goals.

PM Oli was accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay, and Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Rajkumar Shrestha, among others. The entire delegation returned home on Thursday.
