Mahottari, March 7: President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has said local levels are the closest governments for citizens.
Inaugurating a newly constructed administrative building of Manra Siswa Municipality in the district on Friday, the former Prime Minister was of the view that easy and accessible services from the local governments would make citizens feel the presence of ‘good government’.
He advised the local governments and people’s representatives to focus on making their delivery widely accessible and technology friendly. The local governments are responsible for the development of agricultural sector, local infrastructural enhancement to the conservation of natural and religious heritages. Their strengthening is required for the success of the federal government as well, Deuba underlined.
“The local levels should focus on increasing agricultural production, promoting market for local produces and the agricultural advancement,” he said. The exploration of local skills, management of training towards that end and exploration of job opportunities are the duties of the local governments, he said, wanting them to work for expanding road, market and irrigation facilities at the locality. He pledged to coordinate with them as the ruling partner in the federal government.
On the occasion, former deputy prime minister and NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi reminded that Manra Siswa of Mahottari district is the provenance of martyrs who fought for democracy in various movements. “Manra Siswa is the birthplace of martyr Mithilesh Dube,” he shared. He had got martyrdom in the people’s movement of 2036BS.
Leader Nidhi urged the local levels to work as per the spirit of the martyrs. Mayor of Manra Siswa Municipality, Mohan Pande, informed that the municipality constructed a three-story office building at the cost of Rs 72 million. Its cost was shared by the municipality and federal government. There are 26 rooms, including a meeting hall capacious for 300 people.
Similarly, the infrastructure is disabled-friendly.
