Ghimire wins world champion kickboxing title

Kathmandu, Oct 26: Nepali youth kick boxer Abiral Ghimire has made a historical record in the field of kickboxing.

In the tournament organized by the International Sport Kickboxing Association (ISKA) today at Nagoya Congress Centre in Nagoya, Japan, he defeated French boxer Antonin Marconi to clinch the world championship title.

As part of the preparation for the competition, boxer Ghimire received a two-month special closed-door training at Tiger Muay Thai International Club in Phuket, Thailand at his own expense. With this historic success, Ghimire has been successful in becoming the world champion of both ISKA and Professional Kickboxing HEAT 52 Championship.

Ghimire, popularly known as a ‘Himalayan Leopard’, is the first-ever Nepali boxer to participate in such high-profile competition. In the final match that was the prime attraction of the championship, Ghimire defeated his competitor Marconi in the ring in the first round and won the title of ‘International Kick Boxing’.

Boxer Ghimire, who has defeated boxers from France, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Bolivia, the Netherlands, Thailand, among others has established his success in creating Nepal’s identity across the globe.
