5 policemen killed in attack by armed bandits in Pakistan’s Punjab

At least five policemen were killed in an overnight attack by armed bandits on a police checkpoint in Pakistan’s eastern province of Punjab, police said on Friday.

The incident took place in Rahim Yar Khan district, where dozens of heavily armed assailants targeted a checkpoint manned by Elite Force personnel, police spokesperson Irfan Ali Samo said.

“The bandits equipped with modern weapons attacked the post under the cover of darkness, killing our brave officers,” Samo, who also serves as the District Police Officer, told the media.

Police forces swiftly responded to the assault, with additional contingents and armored vehicles dispatched to the area.

“We have sealed all routes leading to the bandits’ hideouts, and an intensive operation is underway,” Samo said.

Search operations continue in the surrounding areas, with security forces deploying heavy weaponry and armored support to apprehend the remaining attackers.
