4 killed, over 50 missing as cloudburst causes massive destruction in north India

Four were dead and over 50 went missing in a huge cloudburst that hit a village in the Uttarakashi region of India’s northern hilly state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

The cloudburst led to landslides and massive floods in the area, said a local official.
A TV footage showed a strong current of slush gushing down the hill, washing away several buildings. Several people were said to be buried in the slush and debris.

According to the latest reports, rescue and relief teams had reached the affected area. Efforts were being made to bring out those buried.

Local officials said they were still assessing the extent of damage, including the human lives lost in the natural disaster.
