350 Irregular Migrants Arrested During Security Operation in Tobruk

Libya’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency announced the arrest of 350 irregular migrants of various nationalities during a large-scale security operation in the Tobruk municipality.

The agency said in a statement that the security operation was part of a series of intensive patrols launched to pursue violators of entry requirements and raid irregular migrant hideouts within the city and its suburbs.

The agency pointed out that the legal status of those arrested varied. Some had entered Libyan territory without completing the official procedures, while others had infiltrated via desert routes, while a number were preparing to migrate illegally across the sea to the European coast.

Libya is a major transit point for irregular migrants seeking to reach Europe.
