16th Nepal Nyingma Monlam Begins in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Dec 29: The 16th Nepal Nyingma Monlam began today at the Sherpa Service Center (Sherpa Gonpa), located near the UNESCO World Heritage Site Boudha Stupa in Kathmandu. This six day event, organized annually by the Nepal Buddhist Nyingma Association, will run from December 29, 2025, through January 3, 2026.

The Monlam brings together Rinpoches, Tulkus, Khenpos, Lamas, and Lopons from monasteries across the country, along with Buddhist devotees and practitioners. The ceremony is dedicated to prayers for global peace, the relief of all suffering, and the promotion of happiness, prosperity, and well being. Monlam rituals are held daily from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, following Mahayana Buddhist traditions.

Thousands of monks, novices, and devotees from across the country are participating, alongside Rinpoches, Tulkus, and Khenpos. Volunteers from several organizations are offering selfless support, including maintaining cleanliness at the venue and distributing tea, snacks, and meals to participants.
