122 fugitives arrested from Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Oct 16: The Nepal Police has arrested 122 prisoners, who had escaped from various prisons in course of the Gen-Z protest demonstrations on September 9, from Kathmandu.

The District Police Range Kathmandu, the Valley Crime Investigation Office and the team under it captured 122 prisoners who escaped taking advantage of the Gen-Z demonstrations.

Among those arrested, 35 were convicted for theft, three for polygamy, 17 for rape, three for culpable homicide, 30 for narcotics, three for banking offences, 12 for attempted murder, and three for organised crime.

Similarly, three of the arrestees were serving term for robbery, three for vehicular killing of persons, six for offences related to kidnapping, one for human trafficking and three in other cases, said Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa, Chief of the Kathmandu District Police Office.

According to him, among those arrested, 112 are men and 10 women. Senior Superintendent of Police Thapa stated that a search is underway for the inmates who escaped from prison during the protest.

Stating that escaped prisoners from various jails could be present in the community and neighbourhood, he requested the public to report to the nearest police post or at police hotline 100 in case they have such information or they see the fugitives in their neighbourhood.
